Accessing Bicultural Support

Step 1 Contact the ACT Professional Support Coordinator or the ACT Inclusion Support Agency to fill out a referral form outlining the child's attendance in care, language spoken and what support is needed. This will generate a consent form that the child's parents/guardians must sign before support can go ahead.

Step 2 Your Inclusion Support Facilitator will make a time to come to your service to discuss your support needs. Your Facilitator can provide mentoring, advice, resources and strategies to support the inclusion of the child into care. At this stage the service professionals and the Facilitator will collaborate to decide if a Bicultural Support Worker is appropriate.

Step 3 Together with the Inclusion Support Facilitator, the service will complete a Service Support Plan that identifies the service's strengths, what resources are available at the service and in the community, the anticipated duration of support and what strategies will be put in place to assist inclusion.

Step 4 If Bicultural Support is to proceed the Facilitator will submit the Service Support Plan to the PSC who will source an appropriate Bicultural Support Worker from the pool.

Step 5 The Facilitator will arrange an orientation session with the Bicultural Support Worker and service professionals to familiarise the worker with the service's staff, policies and procedures and discuss strategies identified in the Service Support Plan.

Step 6 To continue to provide a high standard of service and to ensure that support can continually improve, service staff and Bicultural Support Workers will be asked fill out an evaluation form.
