Mentoring Program
The ACT Professional Support Coordinator has developed a Mentoring Program for children's services in the ACT.
"Mentoring is an alliance that creates a space for dialogue that results in reflection, action and learning." Ann Rolfe 2006
The Mentoring Program provides on the job collaborative support facilitated by an experienced children's services professional to further develop the service's quality practices. The aim of the program is to build the capacity of children's services staff to provide quality care and education for children and their families.
Some strategies used in this support include:
Observation
Collaborative discussion
Setting goals and formulating strategies to achieve them
Role modeling
Succession planning
Positive aspects of having a mentor in the workplace:
Staff have the opportunity to reflect on their practices and receive feedback
All staff have an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge
Increased collaboration within the team
Mentoring ‘on the job' ensures learning is relevant and can be put into practice straight away
Fees for service:
Mentor support fee is $15.00 per hour. For more information call 1800 228 772 or via email; actpsc@commsatwork.org.
